Week 24 TOO MUCH SUGAR!!!

Today was the glucose test.  For all you non-preggos, this is a test to make sure that I am not developing Gestational Diabetes.  Most pregnant women fear this test.  I never have.  It's not a horrible thing really.  So many people make it sound horrible.  I will admit that it used to be better than it is now.  With Lindsey, the drink was carbonated... so my orange drink tasted like Sunkist.  mmmmm.  Nothing wrong with that.  Now it is just REALLY sweet with a hint of fake orange flavor, no carbonation.  Not that yummy, but not too horrible.  If I am showing signs of developing GD, I will get a call from my Dr's office.  If not... No news is good news.
See the straw all crumpled up inside?  I'm telling you, straws make drinking ANYTHING easier ;).

Weight wasn't horrible, but I honestly was hoping for less of a gain.  Last visit I gained 6 lbs in 3 weeks.  This visit I packed on 5 lbs in 4 weeks... at first I was upset, but I just looked it up and it says that during the 2nd trimester the normal gain is about 1 - 2 lbs per week.  I gained BARELY over a lb a week, so I guess I shouldn't be hard on myself.   I am currently tipping the scales at 151 lbs.  If you remember I began at 135.  This is definitely my LEAST favorite part about pregnancy.  I am really hoping to end this pregnancy no higher than 160, but with 16 weeks left, I have no doubt that I will more than likely end closer to 165.  I am not going to do anything rash to make sure I stay below a certain weight, so don't worry about me.  This isn't my first rodeo.  I eat when I'm hungry and I take my walks.  I am doing everything as smart and healthy as I can.

Here I am 24 weeks pregnant.

Moving right along.  Next visit will be with a nurse practitioner.  I am discussing Tubal Ligation, so if anyone has any experience, advice, or thoughts on that subject, let me know.

I would like to apologize to all of you who typically get blog comments from me.  I have been so out of it in the blogging world.  I plan on catching up tomorrow. :)

P.S.  Almost forgot.  For those who don't know!  I am excited to tell you that.... my sister and I are both pregnant at the same time... she is nearly 18 weeks pregnant.  She just found out she is having a girl too.  I couldn't be more excited.  Both of us are pregnant with unplanned pregnancies.  It is the funniest situation, but we are both really excited... and I am so happy that my sister is getting her little girl, since she already has an awesome little boy!

  1. My first test with Sadie I had the carbonated orange drink, and carbonated made it so easy. With this pregnancy, I got the syrupy flat- hint of orange drink. So hard to get down, and I didn't get a straw. Gagged so much.

Hope your test goes well, the 2hr test is way worse.

You're looking awesome by the way.

  3. I think it is very awesome that both of you are pregnant at the same time. If I ever decide to have more children I hope I can be pregnant at the same time as one of my siblings. I think it would be so cool talking about pregnancy to someone close. I love seeing the pictures each week. It is amazing to see how much of a difference a week really makes. I am also hoping your test goes well. :D

and the glucose test has never bothered me either.

during my first pregnancy i gained 65 (!!!) pounds. the second time around i watched what i ate and exercised regularly and still ended up gaining almost 50. i think our bodies are going to do what they need to. but you still look great. :)

  6. I remember my aunt had GD during her second pregnancy. I was only like 13 or 14 so I don't remember much about it, but at least I have a clue when I'm reading blogs by preggo ladies now.

I think it's really amusing that you and your sister are pregnant at the same time. Some crazy intentional cosmic coincidence, perhaps?

  9. I failed the test the first time. :(
It turned out to be a false alarm (I guess 15 percent of women just fail it off the bat even if they don't have GD)!

  16. I completely agree with you. The drink isn't great, but it's not that bad. When everyone warned me I was expecting something waaaay worse. It's just really thick.

You are looking so great Amy! I know I say that every time, but I really mean it and can't help saying it. Your belly is actually starting to make me miss mine. I wish I could just reach through that computer screen and give it a little rub. I would totally ask first though! And...if you said no, I would just be content looking at it. Does that sound weirder than weird? I hope not. :)

So fun to be pregnant with your sister! That is really exciting. Miss seeing you around, but I too am kind of backing off the Internets these days.
