Am I The Only One??? (SPOILER ALERT)

Ok.  Now that it's been a few days and I know a lot of you have seen the movie by now... this is my last major post on the last movie installment of Harry Potter.
PLEASE: IF YOU HAVE NOT SEEN THE MOVIE YET OR READ THE BOOK PLEASE SKIP THIS POST AND COME BACK WHEN YOU HAVE!!! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE.
I do not want to be responsible for spoiling anything for you.
Ok.  When I said there were parts I didn't like about the new Harry Potter film, I should clarify.  There really was only one major part that really irked me.  Seriously, it bugged me so bad, I left the film really questioning whether I liked the movie or not.  Even though I was emotionally moved in all aspects... This one thing was threatening to undo it all for me!  I have since come to the conclusion that I loved the movie but hated this one scene...

At the end... instead of Harry using the Elder wand to fix his wand that got broken in Godric's Hollow... he just snaps it in two... when in the book, he uses the Elder wand, being that it is unbeatable, to fix his wand and then he returns the wand to Dumbledore's tomb.  When the snapping scene took place, I turned to Dave and said "I guess he doesn't NEED a wand, he's Harry effing Potter" ha ha ha.  I was just really grumpy about it.  The thing is, it really wouldn't have taken much time or effort to have kept that in step with the book.  They showed that his wand got broken in DH pt 1...
...so to have him pull his broken wand out of a pocket or bag and repair it with the Elder wand would have been easy peasey... then if the movie wanted him to snap the wand in half so bad, do it then... but for goodness sake... Repair his fracken wand.  That wouldn't have been too difficult of a scene, now would it have?  Am I the only one that this bugged???

So that's my gripe with the last installment.  I loved it... cried like a baby... there was some BRILLIANT acting done by my favorite Alan Rickman, Ralph Fiennes, Helena Bonham Carter, Michael Gambon (who I initially HATED as Dumbledore but came to adore him after HBP), etc... It was all great.  Except for... the wand.  Grrrrrr.

  1. this didn't bother me. like you said, i think it could have been easy to fit in him at least fixing his own wand, but i've come to accept ridiculous changes from the book. i LOVED the movie, although i thought the kiss was a little over-hyped. gonna have to review it soon on my blog too. :] can't wait to see it again!

  2. this didn't bother me... because i haven't read the books.
BUT. i will tell you this.
as an avid follower of the movies....(and reading the epilogue of the 7th book all the way back when it was first published), I HATE THE COUPLINGS THAT HAPPEN. UGH UGH UGH.
i have disliked harry & ginny since their first kiss, and i will always dislike ron and hermione, but i'm not sure why.. something about them bothers me!! ugh! just a little thing i dislike. and its not just me, apparently - it bothers my boyfriend who LIVES for harry potter. silly jk rowling ;)

  3. First, we're not talking...because Michael Gambon has WAY more emotion & life as Dumbledore & that's settled! I yelled at my cousin about that too...I'm really a Michael Gambon fan. =) Also, we can be friends again & I do think that was bad form to leave the scene out but I went to the movie w/ someone who hasn't read the books & for them, the snapping seemed more significant like "hey I'm not gonna use this, I don't need all that power, it's not worth it & there's nothing that bad to fight out there anymore anyway" ...so yeah. It really wasn't that bad considering all the other things they've left out over the years. Movie 5 pissed me off more than anything. But in all reality, it was implied. He fixed his wand & we know it. So you can sleep easy my friend, Harry's wand is okay. ;)

  4. Also, RON NEEDS TO MOVE HIS BIG HEAD OUTA THE WAY SO WE CAN SEE THE KISS!

  5. CaL: I said I like Michael Gambon now. HBP won me over for him. I hated him in GOF though, and you can't convince me otherwise. ha. As for the wand... when was it implied? I would have been happy if it had at least been implied. As far as I am concerned Harry has no wand now. What kind of wizard doesn't have a wand???

  6. Haley, that's so funny. In the books the relationships are a lot more "comfortable" I have always thought that the on screen love between them was AWWWWWKWAAAARD ha ha ha. I like Ron and Hermione though :)

  8. The wand totally bothered me! Particularly since I just finished re-reading the last book this morning, then saw the movie this afternoon. I was sitting there waiting for him to fix the damn wand, even if he didn't return the Elder Wand to Dumbledore and it just didn't happen. I was just like ... wtf.

  10. I am going to start these books with my little man this upcoming week. We've never seen a single movie and know nothing about it...I'm a little worried that I might get obsessive about this, as I did with Lost and the Hobbit movies:)

  11. I really wanted to see Wormtail cop it - but I understand why it was left out. I didn't think of the wand thing until much later.

I LOVED the last one. I think they did a really great job finishing it off. I also cried like a baby :) It was A LOT harder to watch than I thought.

  13. Yeah. That was the worst part for me. It would have been so easy to do!!! Snape was incredible, though. That was my favorite part.

  14. My boyfriend and I also found that bit lame at the end but other than that I loved it! Maggie Smith was my favourite.

  16. Oh, man. That bothered me SO MUCH, too. And also that weird scene where Harry and Voldemort grab each and fall off the parapet. I was like...why was that needed?

Also, congratulations, you may have made more Harry Potter posts in the last weeks than I have!

  17. honestly? i think they followed the MOVIE story line really well. where i can see as that being a big thing, wands to them are like apendages to us, at the same time, as far as the movie went it seemed that his broken wand was the last thing on Harry's mind. he had just defeated the dark lord (who gives awkward hugs...) and now that i think about it, it may even have seemed a little out of place had he done it right there. but that's just me. -- i've also heard other people's major beef was that Harry died alone in the woods without all the school watching and such. but again, i thought they made it work for the movie story line. they saw him "dead" in Hagrid's arms so they knew what had happened, obviously.
i have learned to seperate the books and movies (especially when it comes to HP) because of how let down i was becoming when i would see book-to-movie films. after the 5th one (which did not include my FAVORITE part in the whole series) i washed my hands of the comparisons and just see them as watered down condensed versions of the books we've all grown to love over the years. i watch them like the film makers are saying "here, we wanted to bring this to life for you so, here are all the exciting dramatic parts, you know all the rest." otherwise, i would probably hate the movies like i do the Twilight films!!
okay. i'll stop talking now. :)

  18. I totally agree! And the final showdown between Harry and Voldemort takes place with the students watching and Harry and Voldemort taunting each other! :(
I hated it when Snape died. Why did he have to go, he was the best! :( poor snape, almost crying just thinking about it now.

  19. Totally missed that. Totally. I did wonder where his wand was at one point though. Ha. I also was not a fan of Michael Gambon as Dumbledore for a long time. I think he's a great actor, but him as Dumbledore was not my favorite. He has grown on me though.

  21. I was also a little miffed about the wand not being fixed, cause ya, its a simple thing to put in- Why not? Oh, and I was silently sobbing while watching alan rickmans preformance in the scene with lily potter. So thankful that my husband didnt see it with me, he just teases me about crying during movies.
