I ran my first 10k race early in the morning on the 4th. I had such a great time. I didn't get to train as hard as I would have like to for the race, due to school, but considering that, I did pretty well. I am not a fast runner. I am short among other deficits. I usually run about a 10:15 min/mile, but during this race, I ran 3 miles under 10 minutes. One clocked in at 9:13. I was pretty proud of myself. On the normal, it takes me about 1 hour and 5-7 minutes to run 6 miles. I ran this 10k (6.2+ miles) in 1 hour and 3 minutes. I didn't place very high... but I wasn't last, and that is all that matters to me. I didn't stop to walk at all. I kept running the whole time. The slowest mile I had was 10:54, and that was mile 5, when I usually hit "the wall."
I plan on running a couple more organized running events before the year is up. I think I will work on training myself harder to be faster.
Later in the day we went to "Freedom Fest" which was being hosted by a few area organizations. We got to spend some time with our church friends and relax watching a pretty decent firework show. Besides the traffic getting out, it was a wonderful Fourth.
This picture was taken by my friend's husband. Not perfect, but glad to have it. I am barely in the pictures.
This is as good as dark firework pictures get with an iPhone.
As blurry as this one is, it's one of my favorites. :) Brendan was having an awesome time.
